Back in the early 80’s, when Lotto 649 first started, I started buying tickets with my fellow employees in the Banff, Alberta, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). Of course, we all had dreams of the big win!
It was also in the early eighties that I was also beginning to learn about computers, programming, and databases. One of my first projects was to see if I could use my newly found computer skills to increase my odds of winning this newly created weekly lottery.
My first lottery analysis computer program was written is Basic on my TRS-80 64K Colour Computer collected and stored each week’s draw numbers (back then it was only a once a week draw). Each week, the program would give me a list of the most played and least played numbers. Even back then, I was curious about what could be done to increase my chances of winning. Do certain numbers or combinations of numbers come up more or less often than others?
Flash forward 40 years, my friend Dave was visiting from B.C. and he gave me a text file of the numbers of every Lotto 649 and Lotto Max draw. He thought it might be fun to see what patterns could be discovered from the file. It was strangely coincidental timing as I was already thinking of dusting off my web development skills and seeing what I could discover. I was a web developer almost 15 years before transitioning to product management about 10 years ago.
This web-site is just the start. It combines an old interest with a desire to learn (and re-learn) what is new in web development, web design, and coding frameworks with the data analysis associated with over 13 million lottery combinations (lotto 649) and over 99 million Lotto Max combinations.
