General Improvements to reporting

I haven’t posted in the blog for a while, but I have been busy updating a lot of the functionality in the backend.

To start, I am now pulling my lottery data directly from OLG now. Over the past few weeks, pulling my raw data from a third party site has caused me numerous issues. That third party site started posting results later and later and it was messing with my daily scripts. I have re-written my parsing program to pull the data directly from the results pages on OLG and the results have been far more accurate.

I was generating most of my reports dynamically when I first started building out my analysis. As the reports started becoming more complex and depended, I noticed the hit my server was taking to its performance. I now run those scripts less frequently, but store the results as static content. I saw a strong boost in performance from that relatively small change. I hope you like some of the cosmetic changes to the reporting, as well.

For the next couple of weeks, I am turning my attention to creating a second generation of the reporting, with better analysis. I am also re-building the simulations. I made the decision a while ago to move away from only running the simulations against historical data. I think that was now a mistake. I foresee a more enhanced simulation engine that let’s my followers see how the various number picking strategies would work against actual historical data rather than quick pick generated future data.

Lastly, I have begun working on a Members only area that will include a ton of new functionality for real lottery data enthusiasts.
